Discover Bellevue Washington
The beautiful city of Bellevue is the fifth largest city in Washington, and is located just ten miles east of Seattle. Known as ‘city in a park’, Bellevue is also the home of Washington State Prosthodontics and Dental Implant Center. Yes, we are experts in creating perfect smiles, but we are also experts of our city! Stick around and let us show you all that this picturesque city has to offer.
The History of Bellevue, Washington
Before Bellevue was the beautiful, bustling, yet quaint city we know today, it was a wet, swampy, densely wooded area tucked between two stunning lakes; Lake Sammamish and Lake Washington. At the turn of the century, the beginning of the 1900’s, Bellevue’s forests were logged and it grew into a prosperous farming town, housing hardworking villagers who fostered a tight knit community.
In 1940, the very first bridge was build over Lake Washington. This was a monumental time for Bellevue as the bridge created greater access to the area that was quick and convenient and brought a flood of new residents to the town. Shortly after Lake Washington’s bridge was built, a new attraction opened – Bellevue Square. Bellevue Square is a shopping center that opened in 1946 and was one of the very first suburban shopping centers to open in the United States.
In 1953, the city of Bellevue was officially incorporated as it continued to grow and annex the surrounding areas. With its consistent growth over recent decades, Bellevue has broken free from its longstanding categorization as a suburban oasis and became a diverse and booming metropolitan area boasting skyscrapers and a hub for the high tech and retail communities.
“City in a Park”
Bellevue is known as ‘city in a park’ for a reason. It is a stunning, mid-sized city surrounded by more than 2,700 acres of parks, trails, and open spaces. If you are looking to explore the Bellevue area it will take a lot of dedication and even more time to explore all of the beautiful parks the city has to offer, but don’t you worry, your Bellevue Prosthodontists have curated the perfect list of the best parks in the area so you can get right to the exploring!
Bellevue Downtown Park
You’ve heard of Central Park in Manhattan, right? Well Bellevue Downtown Park is kind of like that! Okay, not exactly, but it is a 21 acre sprawling open space of green grass and happiness amongst the urban landscape of downtown Bellevue. The park is outlined by a peaceful waterfall sculpture that will make your afternoon picnic in the park even more charming. Not to mention all of the community events, outdoor movie series, and fourth of July celebrations that take place at the park!
Bellevue Botanical Garden
If you are hoping to get a look at the various species of lovely flowers the Pacific Northwest has to offer, you will want to head to the Bellevue Botanical Garden that has 53 sprawling acres of natural beauty. The garden is carefully curated to ensure that a new type of flower or plant is blooming every month out of the year. The Bellevue Botanical Garden also hosts a myriad of events, classes, and tours for its visitors to have a new, exciting and educational experience whenever they visit!
Meydenbauer Beach Park
Meydenbauer Beach Park is located on Meydenbauer Bay which is on the shores of the county’s largest fresh waster lake, Lake Washington. The park is one of Bellevue’s hidden gems tucked away in a residential neighborhood, and it’s one of our favorites! It is the perfect spot to lay out and get some vitamin D in the summer before going for a swim in the Lake. Or if you prefer to stay on dry land, you can take a stroll on the park’s magnificent walkway that leads you to the middle of Meydenbauer bay and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the lake, all while staying dry!
Bellevue Square
Of course you can’t explore Bellevue without stopping at the historical Bellevue Square. It’s the heart of Bellevue shopping with more than 200 retail stores, but it is much more than just a mall. It’s an experience filled with shopping, dining, entertainment and sky bridge access to Lincoln Square for a one stop shop filled of fun!
Day Trips
Sure, when you think of the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is one of the big cities that comes to mind, not Bellevue. But that’s the beauty of Bellevue! It’s a smaller, tight knit community that lives life at a slower pace, yet is only 10 miles from the big city! One of the benefits of Bellevue is its close proximity to the perfect day trip destinations, like Downtown Seattle. Spend the day site seeing some of the most iconic attractions Washington has to offer; the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Seattle Great Wheel, and Puget Sound, all just a quick drive from Bellevue.
Another popular day trip destination is Mt. Rainier National Park, just under a 2 hour drive from Bellevue. Not only is Mt. Rainier an active volcano that ascends to more than 14,000 feet above sea level, but it is also the most glaciated peak in the contiguous US. The park has stunning views, five major rivers, wildflower meadows and an abundance of wildlife. Though not in Bellevue, Mt. Rainier National Park is a must see!
